60 Years in the Sun: Why I Finally Made My Own Shield

For a long time, I figured I was bulletproof. I've spent most of my 60 years on the water, under the glare of the sun and the bite of the wind. I always thought my skin was just "built for it."

But nature has a way of reminding you who's in charge.

The "Aha" Moment

It happened on a recent vacation. I was out in the elements, and for the first time, the sun really got me. It caught me completely off guard. I realized I finally needed some real protection, but when I went to the store, I was floored.

Every single option on the shelf was a plastic bottle full of chemicals I couldn't pronounce.

The Hat, The Shirt, and The Plan

I wasn't going to settle for those chemicals. I ended up buying a big hat and a long-sleeve T-shirt just to get through the trip. But sitting there under that hat, I made a decision: I was going to make my own.

The Pursuit of the Perfect Batch

I didn't just throw some ingredients in a pot and call it a day. I spent many months researching the right combination of natural ingredients that could actually stand up to the sun, wind and salt.

It took many, many test batches in our kitchen to get it right. I wanted the texture to be perfect, the barrier to be strong, and the ingredients to be beyond reproach. My wife, with her Health Coach background, helped me vet every single drop until we finally created the right combination.

Back to the Basics

We landed on ancestral basics: 100% grass-fed tallow and non-nano zinc. No fillers. No junk. Just a "Natural Barrier" that stays on while you're active and actually feeds your skin instead of just coating it.

Built for the Life Outdoors

I didn't start this to build a skincare empire. I started it because I wanted a product that worked as hard as my favorite fishing shirt or a good pair of boots. Bob's Sun Balm is for the person who wants to stay out longer and live better.

See you on the water!
